Find Exercise Motivation and Keep Going Strong

October 18, 2009

Even though we may realize that we need exercise in order to lose weight, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we are going to get out to the gym regularly and do so.  We may simply be missing exercise motivation, and that can really stop us from getting the exercise that we need.

Unfortunately, many individuals live a life that is doomed to obesity, simply because they don’t get this exercise that is so essential.  Exercise is something that can not only help you overcome obesity, it helps you to do so gradually.  The reason why this is so important is because whenever you lose weight quickly, you tend to gain it back quickly again as well.  This rebound effect can really add inches to your waistline.

Exercise is important for a number of different reasons but one of the most important things that exercise brings to the human body is a boost to the metabolism.  As a matter of fact, the metabolism is something that runs 24 hours a day and when you exercise, it is a more efficient machine.  Strength training is the way that you really build your metabolism solidly.

The reason why this is the case is because weight lifting adds lean muscle mass in the body and this burns additional calories 24 hours a day.  As a matter of fact, 1 pound of muscle while the body is going to burn an additional 60 calories over that same pound of fat.  This adds up over the course of time and many individuals are able to lose weight, without modifying their diet as a result of adding muscle.

Not to be left out of the picture is cardiovascular exercise.  This can be done on a number of different machines that are available at the gym, such as the elliptical trainer or the treadmill.  When you exercise on one of these machines, your metabolism raises and you’re going to burn additional calories during the time that you are exercising.  Unfortunately, your metabolism soon goes back to normal after you finish exercising, that is, of course, unless you use the right type of exercise on those machines.

What I’m talking about is high-intensity interval training, a type of exercise that can really help to keep you burning calories, well after you have stepped off of the treadmill.  You simply go hard for about one minute and then do the same motions slower for anywhere from one to two minutes.  Keep cycling through this process until 30 to 60 minutes is passed and you will see a difference in the way that you look quickly.

One of the best exercise motivation techniques that there is out there is to simply get out and exercise for a while and the results will speak for themselves.  Once you begin to see the fat melt away from your body, you will wonder what took you so long to start in the first place.  You will also have additional energy, which will keep you coming back for more.
